We are very proud to announce the introduction of our new ethical framework. It has taken a great deal of effort from the entire Ouch team, but it was essential to us that the framework accurately represented who we are and what we stand for. So ethical frameworks, what are they and why do they matter to you?
Most people would agree that there is a difference between work and non-work decisions and activities. Organisations come in all shapes and sizes and generally comprise people who bring a range of personal goals and values to work. However, to be trusted by their stakeholders, an organisation must have a clearly defined organisational purpose and a set of values everyone can sign up to. When we work together and become a values-driven organisation, we can be confident that we are treating others correctly and that our decisions and actions are both right and good.
A simple way to think of the relationship between an organisation’s purpose, values, and principles of work is to imagine all of an organisation’s decisions, actions, and influence as being part of the structure of a building.
- The purpose is the roof under which sit all of an organisation’s aspirations, decisions, actions and influence.
- Values are the things that are important to an organisation and should guide our decisions and actions. Organisational values are like pillars that support our common purpose (roof) and become stable through the consistent and reliable application of our three core principles of work.
- Principles of work are the strong foundations (steps) that inform and guide our attitudes, decisions and actions. They enable us to truly become a values-driven organisation so we can achieve our common purpose in a manner we can all be proud of.
