Ouch Learning and Development has launched Walk the Camino to inspire people to enhance their well-being through the ‘Wonders of Walking’. All while raising awareness and support for two incredible charities that give people the chance to spend time in natural environments, MYTIME Young Carers and Dorset Wildlife Trust.
Caring Together has revealed that 80% of the young carers they support are feeling more alone than ever before and that 59% of them aren’t able to take a break from their caring responsibilities.
They aren’t alone. According to the Community Life Survey 2023/24, around 3.1 million people in England reported feeling lonely often or always, a slight increase from previous years. Young adults aged 16–24 and people with disabilities were among the most affected.

To raise awareness of the Wonders of Walking, our Managing Director Simon Cassin and his partner Kirsty, will embark on an unforgettable fundraising adventure by walking the 800k Camino de Santiago, raising money for MYTIME Young Carers and Dorset Wildlife Trust.
Alongside this, Ouch Learning and Development has developed limited edition resources to highlight the physical, psychological and spiritual benefits of walking, bringing attention to the creativity that comes with spending time in the outdoors.
Simon hopes to break down the barriers felt by people in relation to walking, drawing on his experiences as a young carer whose life was transformed with access to walking and the outdoors.
“From 13-16, I was what I now know to be ‘a young carer’. My mother had various issues, but probably the most difficult one was her diagnosis of Multiple sclerosis. When I was around 15, everything changed. I got introduced to a whole new way of life.”

At Ouch Learning and Development, we believe everyone should have the opportunity to achieve wellbeing through the Wonders of Walking. This is your chance to make a difference to the lives of young carers by donating to MYTIME Young Carers and to help bring the value of nature back into our communities, by donating to the Dorset Wildlife Trust.
MYTIME Young Carers are still working on transforming the lives of young people working tirelessly to care for their loved ones. MYTIME’s activity days allow young carers to come together as a community and really let their hair down.
With activities including hiking across the Jurassic coast, MYTIME gives children the chance to make new friends, feel less stressed and develop new skills.

By connecting people with nature and inspiring wilder communities, Dorset Wildlife Trust are bringing nature into people’s lives and tackling climate change. With the help of Dorset Wildlife Trust’s Urban Green project, a group of local people transformed the green space in the heart of Bournemouth town centre at St Peter’s Church.
